How do we reconcile ourselves with this?

Interesting. If everyone donated the amount they spent on one unecessary thing, like ice cream, we could make a dent in the world of poverty.

Problem with poverty in areas like Africa, the money and food that gets sent there winds up in the pockets of the corrupt leadership. How do you resolve that problem?

I am by no means an expert on the subject, but my opinion is that money would be best spent if funnelled into NGO's, or non-governmental organizations. In many poor countries, they have never seen NGO's on a scale such as we have in the United States. Just sit there and think of how many you can name off the top of your head....Now think of the good they do. If countries depend entirely on the political government for their welfare, they end up in a centralized power situation and inevitably someone will abuse that power, such as you alluded to in your comment.
